The Mitchell Mountaineers came out on top Aug. 29 with a 35–21 win over the McDowell Titans. It wasn’t easy, but the Mountaineers kept fighting until the end.
Mitchell got on the board first, but McDowell answered back with two touchdowns to take the lead. That had Mountaineer fans a little worried, but Mitchell’s offense settled back in and found its rhythm. From there, the game was a little back and forth, but in the end Mitchell’s big plays on both sides of the ball made the difference.
Quarterback Owen Riddle had a huge night, scoring five total touchdowns. He threw for one and ran in four more, carrying the Mountaineer offense when they needed him most.
“It was a hard-fought game,” Riddle said. “We kept our composure after mistakes and ended up coming out with a win.”
On defense, Tate Pitman led the way with 10 tackles. He was flying to the ball all night and kept McDowell from building too much momentum.
After the game, Pitman said simply, “It was a hard-fought victory.”
It wasn’t the cleanest game for Mitchell, but the Mountaineers proved they can respond when things don’t go perfectly. By halftime, they had taken control, and the Titans couldn’t keep up. The 35–21 win showed that Mitchell has the toughness to fight through tough stretches and still finish strong.
