Caleb Cook threw for four touchdowns and Cole Young ran for 78 yards and a touchdown as the Mountaineers defeated Madison 55-28 Friday.

The game was effectively over by halftime due to a scoring frenzy in the first 2 quarters that had Mitchell High School leading by 34 points.

Mitchell started the scoring off with a beautiful pass from Caleb Cook to Fernando Flores to make the score 7-0. On Mitchell’s next possession, Cook found Jace Blanton after a 7-play drive to make the score 14-0.

The second quarter started with a short punt by Madison High School, giving the Mountaineers the ball at the Patriot 35. Cook immediately threw his third touchdown pass of the evening, this time to Deshawn Orr, and Mitchell was up 21-0.

Another Madison possession ended in a 3-and-out, and Orr returned the ball to the Madison 27, where Caleb Cook completed his fourth touchdown pass of the night, with Isaiah Turner being the recipient, and Mitchell was up 28-0.

After Mitchell had added yet another touchdown, this time a rushing touchdown by Cole Young, Madison finally reached the endzone and scored. The Patriots’ cause for celebration was short lived, as Deshawn Orr returned the ensuing kickoff 71 yards for a touchdown and gave the Mountaineers a 41-7 lead going into halftime.

The second half was more of the same, with Mitchell moving the ball at will. Even though Madison was able to score three times in the second half, the game was well in hand and the outcome was never in question.

Mitchell ran out the clock and took the victory going away, 55-28.
