HARRELL HILL, N.C.—Vick Whitson, age 64, of the Harrell Hill community, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 17th, at Missions Memorial Hospital. He was the son of Parzady McKinney Whitson and the late O C Whitson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Vincen Whitson. He worked at Henredon Furniture for 31 years and also at Griffith General Store. Vick was an outdoorsman who loved farming and had a talent for woodworking. His favorite place was on the mountain at the family’s cabin. He was a loving, caring and compassionate man and an inspiration to all who knew him. Vick was very strong in his faith and was a member of Green Mountain Presbyterian Church.
Surviving in addition to his mother Parzady, is his loving wife of 43 years, Lizzie Joyce Peterson Whitson; a son, Cody Vincen Whitson and wife, Holly; two special kids: Jaxon and Laika, all of Bakersville; sisters: Joan Bennett and husband, Steve of Burnsville; Jean Barnett and husband, Lindsey of Green Mountain and Jane Peterson and husband, W G, of Green Mountain; brothers: Rick Whitson and wife, Tina of Green Mountain and Nick Whitson of Green Mountain. Vick was blessed with numerous friends, neighbors, co-workers and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. on Sunday, December 20th, in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Doug Harrell, Rev. Billy Bryant and Rev. Garland Honeycutt will officiate.
