SPRUCE PINE — Ronald Emory ‘Ronnie’ McKinney, age 66, of George McKinney Circle in Spruce Pine died Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at the University of North Carolina Medical Center in Chapel Hill.

Born on February 3, 1954 in McDowell County, he was the son of the late Emory McKinney who passed away in 2010. 

Ronnie was a member of the McKinney Cove Baptist Church.  He was also a member of Vesper Lodge #554 A.F. & A. M.  He loved playing golf and going on fishing trips to Montana with his friends and was known as a top notch billiards player.   He also enjoyed listening to Bluegrass music.  Ronnie had a stellar career as a member of the Harris High School Blue Devils basketball team.  

Left to cherish his memories are his daughter; Summer Shuford and husband, Andrew of Burnsville; his mother; Irene Washburn McKinney of Spruce Pine; his brother; Latrelle McKinney and wife, Jody of Chambersburg, PA; his niece; Natalie Strickland and husband, Mike of Kentucky; his nephews; Chris McKinney of Minnesota, Nick McKinney, Dustin McKin-ney, and Andrew McKinney all of Pennsylvania; his great nieces; Chloe and Mya; special cousins; Dr. Chris McKinney of Wilming-ton, Pat Collis of Spruce Pine, and Polly Sisk of Asheboro; several loving aunts and uncles. 

A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends was held on Sunday, July 5, 2020 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 6, 2020 at 2 p.m. at the Grassy Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Rocky Branch and Rev. Gene Self officiating.  Masonic graveside rites will be provided by Vesper Lodge #554 A.F. & A.M.  Interment will be in the Grassy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
