BAKERSVILLE, N.C.— Luther William Baker, 95 of Bakersville, NC, the Snow Hill Community, passed away on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, at his home. He was the son of the late Horace and Bertie Buchanan Baker. He was a veteran of WWII serving in Germany and receiving the Purple Heart. Luther enjoyed farming and working with his cattle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Baker, a sister, Edith Lawson and brothers: Lee, Lane, and Marvin Baker.

Luther loved all his family which include his wife of 68 years, Nelda Bennett Baker; daughters: Linda Carpenter of Hawaii, Vicky Greene of Marion, and Debra Buchanan (Michael) of Bakersville; son, Kenneth Baker of Bakersville; sister, Alice Duncan of North Wilkesboro; and brother, Bill Baker of Huntersville; grandchildren: Michael Buchanan, Matthew Buchanan, Nathan Greene, Logan Greene, Brittany Cary, Jason Weston, Karen Melton, and Brian Baker; seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021 in the Snow Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Dean Honeycutt and Rev Chris Rathbone officiating. The family received friends two hours prior to the service. Burial followed in the Snow Hill Cemetery with military honors.
