BAKERSVILLE, N.C.— John Lewis Bailey, age 84, of Valley View Road in Bakers-ville, the Cane Creek communi-ty, passed Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at his home.

Born on September 6, 1936 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late John and Pansy Bailey.  He was also preceded in death by his daughter Donna Snow of Normandy, ME; his sisters; Hettie Vance of Florida and Ruby Bartlett of Erwin, TN; and his brothers; Deeford Bailey of Bakersville and Roy Bailey of Tennessee.  

John served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, worked for the Mitchell County E.M.S. and millwright work before retiring.  He enjoyed farming, hunting, and fishing, and was an avid reader of the Bible and westerns.  He was a member of the Cane Creek Freewill Baptist Church.  

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of sixty-one years; Marilyn Bailey of the home; his sons; Dale Bailey and wife, Paula of Spruce Pine, John Bailey and wife, Debbie also of Spruce Pine; Eric Bailey of Charlotte; his brothers; Rex Bailey and wife, Linda of California and Robert Bailey and wife, Evelyn of Pineola; his sisters; Lillian Ledford of Bakersville, Pearl Reide of Marion and Linda Buchanan of Hickory; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Private graveside services were held on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Cane Creek Cemetery for family members only with former pastor and family friend Rev. Marvin Hensley officiating.  

The family would like to extend a very special ‘Thank You’ to all of the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for their care and support of John over the past few months, espcially Diana ‘Lady Di’ Hughes.  

Due to the current COVID-19 regulations, our staff is commit-ted to taking care of our guests and families that we serve. Please understand we will be following the State’s COVID guidelines.  We also ask all guests and family members at-tending the graveside service to please bring and wear a mask at all times and maintain social distancing.
