BAKERSVILLE N.C.-Jerry Lee Conley, age 76, of Bakersville, NC passed away peacefully in his home with family by his side on Sunday, August 16, 2020.

Mr. Conley was born on February 1, 1944 and raised in Mitchell County, NC in the Loafers Glory Community. He was the son of the late Charles and Florence Davis Conley. He was also preceded in death by his brother Bill Conley.

Born with special needs, Jerry lived a miracle of a life. de-spite his daily challenges he was a friend to everyone. He always had a hug, smile, and happy laugh that lit up the entire room. He loved getting out in the community and seeing familiar people and places. One of his favorite places to be was singing in the church choir at Mine Creek Baptist. Not only did he enjoy music and dancing he also enjoyed sitting at his desk quiet-ly writing in his notebook.

Every morning started off with a request for coffee and cake, his favorite! Jerry taught those around him many valuable lessons, just in being himself; he instilled qualities of ac-ceptance, love, patience, and forgiveness. He reminded us to smile, give a hug or high five, and keep moving.

He is survived by many friends and family who were able to help and care for him through the years. He will espe-cially be missed by his long-time caregivers: Jean McCourry (Paul), and Gina McCourry (Shannon, Legend, Marley), and Ann Hughes.

Funeral services were held Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of Henline - Hughes Funeral Home with TJ Robinson and Andy Willis officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Mine Creek Ceme-tery (Davis Cemetery) Rd.

The family would also like to recognize Hospice and Pallia-tive Care of The Blue Ridge for the countless hours of support and care received.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to Special Olympics, NC or Hospice and Palliative Care of The Blue Ridge.
