BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C.— Jean Nydegger died peacefully in her home at Highland Farms in Black Mountain, NC on December 8, 2020 at the age of 89.

Jean was born on September 30, 1931 in Orlando, FL to Lester and Amy Nydegger.

She graduated from Florida State University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. In her younger days she was well traveled to many destinations around the globe and enjoyed meeting new and interesting people. For years she divided her time between Florida and Little Switzerland, NC. She talked of watching early rocket launches at Cape Canaveral and time spent at the beach. She also loved the beauty of the mountains where she enjoyed her friends, gardening and nature.

Jean was known for her quick wit and dry sense of humor. She liked to laugh and enjoyed a good vodka martini. Her favorite meal was eating out. She also looked forward to a road trip with a late morning departure. A “morning person” she was not. Independent and sometimes stubborn, Jean was also kind and generous.

Jean was preceded in death by her father, Lester; her mother, Amy; her sister, Joan; and her brother, Lester Jr. She is survived by two nephews, Scott (Sharyn) Hutchinson of Winter Springs, FL and Craig (Rebecca) Hutchinson and their two sons of Naples, FL.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
