SPRUCE PINE, N.C.— Barbara Arnold Day, age 88, of Spruce Pine, N.C., was called to Heaven on November 7, 2020.  A native of Raleigh, N.C., she was born March 12, 1932. She was preceded in passing by her parents, Fadine P. Arnold and Broddie D. Arnold, and by her husband Harold Vann Day, and sister Faye Arnold Broyhill. 

Mrs. Day was a lady of grace and charm and enjoyed her community work and social activities including the Spruce Pine Junior Women’s Club, Book Club and being a Girl Scout leader.  As a member of the Spruce Pine United Methodist Church she enjoyed singing in the Chancel Choir as well as the Mayland Choral Society.  She also enjoyed attending the University of North Carolina sporting events and supporting the Tar Heels.  

Barbara was a Charter Mem-ber of P.E.O. Chapter T\NC-Spruce Pine, organized on October 24, 1970, and was their first Recording Secretary.  This year she was celebrated as a 50-year member of P.E.O. 

Mrs. Day graduated from Broughton High School in Raleigh, attended UNC-G in Greensboro and UNC School of Pharmacy in Chapel Hill.  Her husband, Harold Vann, was a pharmacist and owner of Day’s Drug Store in Spruce Pine and served as Director of Pharmacy at Spruce Pine Community Hospital.

 Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Amanda F. Day of Raleigh, and sons Christopher Day of Spruce Pine, and Vann Day and his wife Carol Yates Day of Carrboro as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

There will be a Memorial Service for Mrs. Day on Tuesday, November 10th, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the sanctuary of the Spruce Pine United Methodist Church.  A time to visit with the family and share memories will follow the Service. Mrs. Day’s interment will be in the Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery.  A private graveside service for the family will be held prior to the Memorial Service. 

The family sends their sincerest thanks to the many caregivers who nurtured and comforted Mrs. Day, and are so thankful for the patience, respect, and grace that they demonstrated. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to:  The Fund for Mitchell County, PO Box 1101, Spruce Pine, NC 28777-1101 or Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777; or Mitchell County Animal Rescue, PO Box 308, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
