Visitor limitations in place at Mission hospitals

Due to increased flu activity in North Carolina, Mission Health has implemented visitor limitations for all Mission Health hospitals, effective Monday, Dec. 16. Visitors younger than 12 and anyone who does not feel well is encouraged to call patients rather than visit them in the hospital.

SPRUCE PINE – Mayland Community College’s Pre-College Programs department offers non-native English speakers a chance to advance their education.  Mayland offers free English as a Second Language classes to any adult whose primary language is something other than English.

$3M grant will fund airport improvements

NEWLAND – Big improvements are coming soon to the Avery County Airport.  Utilizing $3 million in state and federal grant funding, Avery Airport officials plan to construct a new partial-length parallel taxiway and finish the expansion of the aircraft parking apron.

Students will participate in 'Say Something Anonymous' program

LEDGER – Mitchell County Schools will be part of the first wave of participating schools in a new safety website, mobile application and phone line called “Say Something Anonymous.”  The state recently bought into Say Something Anonymous, which is a product of the Sandy Hook Promise organization.
