LEDGER — Mitchell High School’s early childhood education classes weren’t able to go on their annual field trip to the Blue Ridge Partnership for Children in Burnsville this past August, so BRPFC came to them.
On Monday, Oct. 19, CTE instructor Lynn Walker held a virtual Google Meet with Sylvia Peterson, Ruthie Styles and the early childhood I and II honors classes.
The BRPFC shared a video with the students that showcased interviews with almost all of the staff members.
Early childhood students learned the job duties and responsibilities that are necessary to have an impact by helping children in the tri-county region get ready for kindergarten.
Students learned that this begins with supporting parents of newborns and providing child care center employees with training.
After the video, Peterson and Styles talked to the students virtually about upcoming events and fielded questions.
Students have used items from the BRPFC Resource Center in their class projects and are volunteering with BRPFC in several community events.
