BAKERSVILLE – The Town of Bakersville has a new town clerk.
Mitchell County native Kelli Beam started in the position Monday, Jan. 4.
Beam replaces Abby Garland, who was sworn into office in July of last year.
At the Bakersville Town Council’s regular meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 29, Mayor Charles “Chuck” Vines said he was happy to have Beam on board.
“I’ve been working and looking and I narrowed it down to the person who I think will be with us for the long haul,” he said. “I feel real comfortable with Mrs. Kelli Beam joining us.”
In her new role, Beam will be in charge of billing, payments, meeting minutes and more.
Beam, who previously worked for the Mitchell News-Journal as the Advertisement Representative for a little over two years, said she is excited for the opportunity.
“I am very excited about this new adventure,” Beam said. “To all the businesses that I have worked with during my time at the News-Journal, I want you to understand how much I appreciated each and every one of you.”
