Water woes continue to plague Spruce Pine

Spruce Pine is continuing to periodically flush water pipes in downtown to clear discoloration in the Lower Street area.

The town also ended a boil water notice for several streets in the Grassy Creek area recently.

A notice was sent out July 15 stating that the water pressure was low in the area of Dale Street, South Dale Street, Rogers Street, Swiss Pine Lake community, the Grassy Creek Golf & Country Club community, the Grassy Creek area, and connecting streets.

The notice recommended that residents of those areas boil their water.

“Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increase the potential for introduction of bacteria into the water system,” the notice read.

A second notice was sent out July 17 ending the boil water recommendation.

A small section of Lower Street (Locust Street) is still dealing with water discoloration. However, repeated tests have not shown bacteria levels high enough to require boiling the water.
