Southern Ridge Cafe seeks new ownership

The Southern Ridge Cafe, located at 31 N Mitchell Avenue in Bakersville, is officially on the market. With an asking price of $189,000, this property boasts a rich history, having been constructed in 1924 and serving as a cornerstone of the community.

Characterized by its prime location in downtown Bakersville, the cafe is perfectly situated as the gateway to Roan Mountain and is a stone’s throw away from the Bakersville Creek Walk In 2018, the Southern Ridge Cafe underwent a comprehensive renovation that updated its electrical and plumbing systems. The establishment is fully equipped to continue operating as a cafe.

The cafe has been under the ownership of Mitchell County Commissioner Chair Harley Masters and her husband, Deputy John Masters. The challenges presented by a recent tragedy — the loss of their barn to a fire, which resulted in the loss of several animals and much equipment — the Masters have made the difficult decision to sell the cafe. They plan to keep the business operational until the end of July or until it finds a new owner, whichever comes first. This timeframe is intended to allow customers ample opportunity to redeem their free sandwich cards and gift certificates.

“It’s what we need to do right now,” Harley Masters stated, reflecting on the sale. The cafe is listed with Mountain Adventure Realty.
