Primary election takes shape with diverse candidate filings

With the filing deadline for the 2024 primary election having passed, Mitchell County residents now have a clearer picture of the candidates vying for local and state offices.

 

Board of Commissioners

The Mitchell County Board of Commissioners will see a competitive race, with a mix of incumbents and new challengers filing for the three available seats. The race includes incumbents Harley Masters (R), Clayton Roberts (R), and Brandon Pittman (R) alongside new contenders Jan Hamilton (D), Ron McKinney (D), Lee Ellis (R), Dewayne McKinney (R), Dale Blevins (R), and Loren Grano (R).

 

Board of Education and Register of Deeds

The Board of Education race, with two seats up for grabs, features incumbents Brenda Sparks (R) and Sam Blevins (R), joined by Chad Greene (R). In the race for the Register of Deeds, incumbent Kathy Laws (R), has filed for re-election.

 

State Legislative contests

The contest for the NC House of Representatives will be between John Ford (D) and Dudley Greene (R). The NC State Senate race will see Frank Patton Hughes III (D) challenging incumbent Republican Ralph Hise (R).

The candidates are gearing up for a primary election set for March 5, 2024, with a diverse slate of contenders.
