For the first time in four decades, Aldridge Eye Institute of Burnsville is under new ownership.

Founder Dr. Chuck Alrdidge gives way to new owner Dr. Thuc Moore, who joined the practice in 2019.

Moore was born in Australia and grew up in South Carolina. She earned a biology degree in 2014 from College of Charleston before graduating summa cum laude from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.

Moore envisioned practicing in a rural mountain area, paving her way to Burnsville.

Moore said when she moved to the area, she was struck by the quality of care offered at Aldridge and its strong commitment to the community.

“I intend and look forward to continuing this long tradition,” she said.

Moore is passionate about science and health and vows to meet patient needs through compassion, education and comprehensive care.

Dr. Jennifer Mauney Smith, also a Yancey resident, rounds out the practice’s staff. Smith is a Mountain Heritage graduate who joined the practice in 2019.

Alridge will continue to see patients once a week. Call 682-2104 for more information about Aldridge Eye Institute.

“I am very excited to take on this responsibility,” Moore said. “We’ll continue to serve our community as Alridge Eye Institute has done for more than 40 years.”
