Mitchell High health science students in Katy Grindstaff’s class recently practiced on simulated patients using the Mission Health Sim Lab Bus, which traveled to the school for the occasion.

In addition to the hands-on experience, Chuck Tucker, doctor of nursing practice, spoke to students about health careers and the paths to those positions.

During the day, students worked with Blue Ridge Regional Hospital registered nurse Deandra Miller, Sherri Miller of BRRH and Mission Hospital McDowell. The two led students in hands-on simulated CPR.

Officials from the Mitchell CTE and health science program thanked Mission Health for providing the learning opportunity.

“Mission Health is excited to be able to reach out to our regional schools with the Regional Simulation Education and Learning Laboratory, which is a mobile simulation lab,” Tucker said.  “The SIM lab is a state-of-the-art 40-foot vehicle that allows students the opportunity for hands-on learning and interaction. Colleagues from Mission Health facilities participate with the mobile sim lab in their home counties to provide this community outreach.”
