The annual Mitchell High Veterans Recognition Ceremony brought together and celebrated 42 veterans and their family members on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

The MHS Young Patriots Club sponsored the event and provided coffee and donuts. Adam Wheeler prepared a barbecue lunch.

Mitchell staff members Jennifer Dellinger, Jennifer Barnett and Susie McKinney prepared desserts. Students in Stephanie McClellan’s foods class served the meal.

Freshman Allison Pittman sang the National Anthem and Patriots Club president and senior Reagan Sparks led attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance before giving a speech.

Mitchell High band teacher Jeb Sturgill and student band members performed the Armed Forces Songs. Felix Henson, Sarai Sanchez-Geroni, Clara Hutchings, Roslyn Cook, Valeria Juarez-Procopio, Austin Mahaffey, Jayden Burleson, Serenity Sobolefski, Makala Coursey, Aurelia Aploinar Gomez, Madison Smith and Katie Ollis all performed.

Juniors Delany Jenkins, Brody Miller, Rylee Carver and senior Morgan McMahan sang The 8th of November.

Wheeler, of Mountaineer Barbecue, was recognized for his efforts to prepare the lunch and the fundraising support he has provided to MHS and the community.

McClellan was spotlighted for preparing the veteran’s breakfast, as she has done annually for the past decade.

Grant Sparks and Pittman performed God Bless The USA before the ceremony ended with Sturgill playing Taps.
