January, National Mentoring Month, offers a perfect opportunity to start 2024 by positively impacting a young person’s life with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina (BBBSWNC).
“I enjoy being a Big Brother because it brings me so much joy to see the fun we have and the growth in my little brother. We are always looking for a few more Bigs to join our team,” says Laz Aguayo, a local Big Brother.
BBBSWNC, part of BBBS of America, urgently needs mentors for over 200 children across 18 mountain counties. Men, particularly men of color, are greatly needed to mentor boys eager for activities and guidance.
“National Mentoring Month is an ideal time to appreciate mentors and consider becoming one,” says BBBSWNC Executive Vice President Jamye Davis. Bigs, who can be school-based or community-based, are matched with children sharing similar interests, helping them explore their potential.
Bigs don’t have to be perfect, just dependable. This role, while not time-consuming, can significantly impact a child’s life.
