Tiffany Woody is the store manager of the Spruce Pine Uplifting Deals (formerly The Price is Right). She shopped at the store as a kid when it was “Hickey’s”. The new signs are now up at the Uplifting Deals of Spruce Pine.
Nicholas Duke, local resident and manager of the newly-named Uplifting Deals, discovered the discount shop as a way to bond with his grandmother.
“She had a lot of grandkids that she had to keep happy, so she became the queen of discount places,” Duke said. “She would find a new one all the time.”
The Price is Right Discount Warehouse stores this past week announced a name change to Uplifting Deals retail stores. With locations in Asheville and Spruce Pine, the homegrown discount grocery outlet is changing its name to align the retail stores with its parent company, Uplifting Deals LLC, and to emphasize its vision of service to its clientele.
Uplifting Deals, LLC purchased the discount retail stores in 2017 to bring Western North Carolina the best possible prices on everyday products and unique finds. For the company, the search for the best prices on products supports the customers in improving their lives, both by helping their cash to go further and by giving them respect.
That familial love of deals led Duke to eventually work for Uplifting Deals.
“I wanted to give the community a shopping experience,” he said. “We widened the aisles to accommodate customers, older people with rollators, walkers or wheelchairs.
“Discount places sometimes have a reputation for not being the most spiffy places. And I want to make it feel like a place where people feel like they belong, that it’s nice and safe.”
The commitment to treating customers with respect and friendliness quickly made them a popular resource.
Along with the name change, Uplifting Deals discount stores have a refreshed look with a new logo and store makeovers.
As Joseph Bollini, owner of Uplifting Deals, LLC says, “If you’re a regular, have no fear, the products, great prices and friendly people will continue,” said Uplifting Deals, LLC owner Joseph Bollini. “If you haven’t been by in a long time or have never been, come check us out. Uplifting Deals retail stores are at 198 Weaverville Road in Asheville (next to Centreville Luncheonette) and 929 Oak Ave. in Spruce Pine (next to the Post Office).
