Bakersville Creek Walk expansion updates

The Bakersville community is set to enjoy extended outdoor pleasures with the upcoming expansion of the Bakersville Creek Walk. This project aims to enhance the area’s natural beauty and recreational opportunities.

Scheduled for completion by October 2025, phase 1 of the expansion will introduce a new section of the creek walk near the recently unveiled baseball field.

Following the first phase, the project will embark on an ambitious second phase. A key feature of this phase is the construction of a pedestrian bridge over Cane Creek, coupled with a walkway passing under the N.C. Highway 226 bridge. This strategic extension will not only facilitate safe and scenic crossings but also connect the walkway directly with the Wade Tipton Field. Although dependent on additional grant funding, this phase is optimistically slated for completion by the end of 2026.

The Cane Creek basin will undergo significant enhancements, including USDA-approved creek stabilization, flood prevention measures, and the addition of fishing features. Moreover, the project will introduce stormwater bioretention areas and wetland features, enriching the area’s biodiversity.
