Area students show out at NC FBLA Leadership Conference

Students from Mitchell High School, Bowman Middle and Harris Middle recently attended the North Carolina Future Business Leaders of America Leadership Conference in Greensboro where they networked, competed, learned and had fun. 

The local students and about 2,500 other FBLA members from across the state were in Greensboro. Students enjoyed workshops, food, dancing and a few hands of rook in between competitions. 

Mitchell High students Maggie Martin, Connor Cole, Brinkley Hodshon and Chloe Cook are headed to the FBLA National Competition due to their showings in Greensboro. 

Martin placed third in the Future Business Leader category with Cole finishing second in Computer Applications, Hodshon finishing third in Public Speaking and Cook notching a fourth-place finish in Introduction to Public Speaking. 

Elijah Allen, Kathryn Ringwood (Business Law), Evan Gardner (Spreadsheet Applications) and Ivy Young (Political Science) were also top-10 finalists. Erik Lin, Jordan Murphy, Rylee Carver, Brody Miller, Lauren Ringwood, Michaela Carroll, Lily Buchanan and Reynaldo Silva were honorable mentions. 

The high school students were led by MHS FBLA advisors Jennifer Barnett and Taylor Hughes. 

A group of students also notched top-10 finishes on the middle school side. 

From Bowman, the top-10 finishers were Blake Thayer (Business Etiquette Test), Cameron Miller (Career Research Presentation), Emma Sellers (Exploring Economics Test), Truman Huskins (Critical Thinking Speech) and Sadie Van Brederode (Learning Strategies Test, third place). 

The Harris top-10 finishers were Abby Hedrick (Career Exploration Test, continued from Regionals), Addison Gregory (Impromptu Speaking Speech, second place), Ashlee Ledford (Public Speaking, continued from Regionals), Cylas Carver (Leadership Test), Damon Penny (Critical Thinking Presentation), Eli Hughes (Critical Thinking Presentation), Ethan Hopson (Video Game Challenge Presentation), Kiera McCall (Annual Chapter Activities Presentation, third place), Kyndal Farris (Career Research Presentation), Logan Riddle (FBLA Concepts Test), Maddie Fleming (Annual Chapter Activities Presentation, third place), Mary Grace Davis  (Exploring Technology Test), Mylee Chapman (FBLA Concepts Test) and Regan Woodlief Career Exploration, continued from Regionals, third place).

Middle school FBLA advisors Nichole Lewis, Dan Hopson and Clayton Roberts thanked several people for their support including Misty Silver, Sherry Glenn, Tammy Hopson, Jessica Roberts and Mark Woody. Mitchell County SafePlace also donated suits for students.
