Despite the cold weather, there were butterflies in the air at Greenlee Primary School when Greenlee Cloverbuds met on Tuesday, Feb. 15.

Jennifer Swann, who coordinates Cloverbuds at Greenlee for Mitchell County Extension and Rural Education Partners of Mitchell County, introduced Mitchell County’s youngest 4-H members to the lifecycle of butterflies.

“Mitchell Cooperative Extension/4-H is delighted to be in partnership with Mitchell County Public Schools and Rural Education Partners to provide hands-on learning experiences for Cloverbuds, youth ages 5-8,” said Mitchell County Extension Director Eve Kindley.

4-H is the youth component of Cooperative Extension with academic ties to both NC State University and NC A&T State University. 4-H provides fun, learning experiences for youth ages 5-18 in an informal setting.

The event was made possible through the help of area partners.

“We couldn’t do it without the support of our partners at Mitchell County Transportation and Ingles Markets,” said REP Director Lori Gilcrist.
