Wanda Lee Tipton, 85, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, at Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol, Tennessee, after a brief illness. A native of Green Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Floyd B. and Ethel Johnson Peterson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ted Tipton, who passed away Dec. 1, 2018.  

Wanda was a 1952 graduate of Tipton Hill High School and an active member of Peterson Chapel Brethren Church, where she was the superintendent for several years. She taught craft-making at Mayland Technical College for many years and was a faithful participant at the Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair, where she made quilts, dolls, aprons and various crafts. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and sister. 

Surviving is her daughter, Donna Tipton Charlton, and husband, Mike, of Burnsville; sister, Juanita Gouge, a resident of The Waters in Johnson City, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Stanley Tipton, of Erwin, Tennessee, and sisters-in-law, Barbara Miller and Betty Tipton, both of Green Mountain. Several cousins also survive.

Funeral services were 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. The Rev. Randy Griffith, the Rev. Jim Griffith and the Rev. Terry Long officiated. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. before the services at the funeral home. An additional funeral service was 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Ledford Funeral Home in Erwin, Tennessee, with the Rev. Randy and Jim Griffith officiating. Burial followed in the Roselawn Memory Gardens.
