Robert Thomas Staubitz, 85, of Bakersville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, at St. Joseph Hospital in Asheville. He was a native of Sykesville, Maryland, and the son of the late Wilson and Dorothy Redmond Staubitz. He was a United States Army veteran, an avid NASCAR fan and attended the Fork Mountain Church of Jesus Christ. He will always be remembered for his devotion to his wife, children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Armstrong; and brothers, George and Wilson Staubitz.  

Survivors include his wife, Eloise Garland Staubitz, of the home; daughter, Melissa Gortney (Randy), of Bakersville; son, Jeffrey Staubitz (Melissa), of Spruce Pine; sisters, Sadie Ferguson, Gloria Seal, Betty Wright and Francis Miller; brothers, Wallace Staubitz and Charles Staubitz; grandchildren, Jacob Gortney, Adam Gortney, Autumn Staubtiz, Ethan Staubtiz, Emily Staubitz and Cecilia Anderson.

The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at Fork Mountain Church of Jesus Christ. The funeral followed with Todd Ayers and G.B. Garland officiating. Burial was 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, in the Fork Mountain Cemetery.
