SPRUCE PINE- Ricky McKinney, age 66, of Summit Avenue in Spruce Pine, died Sunday, July 19, 2020 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville.

Born on January 16, 1954 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Claude and Mae Greene McKinney.  Ricky was a member of the Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church.

Ricky served two terms on the Mitchell County Board of Commissioners and was a member of the Spruce Pine Zoning Board.  He was a wonderful and loving husband, father and friend to all.  He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and Professional wrestling.  He also enjoyed ‘muscle’ cars.  He was retired from Unimin after thirty-nine years of service.  He loved his chewing tobacco, spending time with his family, watching FOX News, and his special friend, Bandit.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Betty Webb McKinney of Spruce Pine; his sons; Larry and Kevin McKinney both of Spruce Pine; his brother; Randy McKinney of Spruce Pine; his sisters; Sandy Biddix and husband, Kermit and Vivian McKinney both of Spruce Pine; special cousin; Sherill Thomas and special friend; Ken Fox.

The family had a drive through visitation on Friday, July 24, 2020 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home.  Visitors were directed onto the parking lot for the visitation from Roan Road. Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Shoupe officiating.  Interment followed in the Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery.
