SPRUCE PINE, N.C.— Harold Rhyne, age 91, of Bridgeview Road in Spruce Pine, the Minpro community, died Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville.

Born on December 20, 1928 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Jess William and Effie Turbyfill Rhyne.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of forty-six years, Shirley Hughes Rhyne who passed away in 1998.  Also preceding his in death was a daughter, Sherry Rhyne; his sisters; Doris Thompson, Lucille Burleson, Alice Pittman, Frances Willis and Jesse Peterson; and his brother; Ronald Rhyne.  

Harold was retired from the Feldspar Corporation as Plant Manager following thirty years of service.  He was currently a member of the Berry Chapel Baptist Church and was a former member of seventy plus years of the Pine Branch Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Training Union Teacher, Youth Leader, and was a member of other various committees.  

He loved the Lord and his church family.  After retirement, he was associated with Howell-Sparks Realty in Spruce Pine.  He enjoyed raising tobacco, cattle, and hauling livestock.  He also delivered Meals on Wheels for twelve years. Harold’s goal was to live to be 100 years old, but instead he outlived all his siblings.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of twenty years; Mary Beth Thomas Rhyne of the home; his daughters; Debbie Pittman and husband, Rick and Kristie McKinney and husband, Rick all of Bakersville; his stepsons; Alan Revis of Spruce Pine and Greg Revis and wife, Margie of Newland; grandchildren; Mitchell Pittman and Kelly Jones and husband, Jordan; his step grandchildren; Shane and Summer Revis and Marquita Holden and husband, Zack; his step great grandson; Kai Holden.

The family will be having a private graveside service in the Pine Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.  Interment will follow in the Pine Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of donations or flowers the family asks donations be made to the Shriners Children’s Research Hospital at P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142 Memphis, TN 38101-9908 or Gideon’s International P.O. Box 611 Spruce Pine, NC 28777 

The family would also like to thank The Hospice & Palliative Care of Mitchell County and Kindred Home Healthcare for their loving care of Harold.
