Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Burleson

Elizabeth “Betty” Carol Burleson, 89, of Mine Creek Road, Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord Friday, Dec. 13, 2019. She was a native of Mitchell County and a daughter of the late Arnold and Carrie Young McKinney. She was retired from Mitchell County Head Start Program. She was a member of Silver Chapel Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher. She loved her Lord, family and friends. She enjoyed studying her bible, praying for others, working in her flowers and baking apple pies.

Survivors include her daughter, Kim Griffith (Jerry), of Green Mountain; her son, Tommy Duncan (Wanda), of Bakersville; five grandchildren, Carrie Smith, Kyle Duncan, Keisha Duncan, Amanda Ledford and David Griffith; seven great-grandchildren, Charlie and Jack Smith, Cora and Sarah Duncan, Madison and Mason Ledford, and Jayden Ellis; and special niece and nephew, Mike and Rhonda Gunter. 

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by her husband; Paul Burleson, one brother; Kermit McKinney, and one sister; Kate Gunter.

The family would like to express a special thanks to her caregivers and her friends at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation in Spruce Pine, NC. 

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019, in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Jonathon Thacker officiating. The family received friends one hour before the service. Interment followed the service at Green-Young Cemetery.
