GREEN MOUNTAIN N.C.—Betty Jean McCourry, 82, of Green Mountain, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2020 at the Solace Center in Asheville, NC.

Born December 26, 1937 in the Pigeon Roost Community, Betty was the daughter of the late Pierce and Venia Miller Howell. She was also preceded in death by her husband Lawrence McCourry, three brothers, Warren, Raymond and Elmer and a special friend, Blanchard Garland.

Betty was a devoted wife and mother who always put her family before herself. She stressed to her children to always work hard, be fair, to be kind to animals and love one another. She enjoyed quilting and being outdoors in her daylily patch, but most of all she loved and adored her grandsons.

Left to cherish her memory are two sisters, Jennie Bennett of Green Mountain, NC and Darlene Rudisill of Mount Holly, NC; her daughters, Debbie Peterson (Donald Peterson) of Green Mountain, and Donna McCourry (Stacy Peterson) of Erwin, TN; her son, Doug McCourry of Green Mountain; two grandsons, Conner Miller and Riley McCourry; several nieces and nephews and the many friends and neighbors of the Brummitts Creek Community where she lived for 63 years.

A private service will be held at a future date.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Home Care of the Blue Ridge, 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Chad Smoker and staff of Spruce Pine, NC and the staff of Care Partners Solace Center of Asheville, NC.
