BAKERSVILLE, N.C. — Alma Hughes Buchanan, 90, of Bakersville, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, February 08, 2022, at her residence.
A native of Mitchell County, she was born on July 08, 1931, to the late Harvey Hughes and Lockie Davis Hughes.
She is also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Buchanan; and a great grandson, Logan Garner.
Alma was an avid gardener; she truly loved working with her flowers. She was very committed to her church, Friendship Chapel, and she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved singing hymns and once was a part of a traveling quartet. She also worked for a time as a substitute teacher at Buladean Elementary. Alma will be remembered for her great cooking. She enjoyed canning and always made the best fried chicken.
She is survived by her three daughters, Carol Buchanan (Chantha), Robyn Garner (James), and Janie Buchanan (Chris); five grandchildren, Jonathan Buchanan (Gorana), Zachary Garner (Ashlea), Katie Enfinger (Luke), Bethany Garner, and Christian Garner; and eight great grandchildren, Spencer White, Sofie Buchanan, Isabella Buchanan, Adelaide Enfinger, Lydia Enfinger, Rosalie Enfinger, Jude Enfinger, and Jackson Enfinger.
A memorial service will be held in the Spring.
