Fire destroys home

On Tuesday, Dec. 19, fire crews rapidly responded to reports of a structure fire at 704 Washburn Road, engulfing the home of the Jones family - a husband and wife with their two boys, aged two years and six months.

License NC DMV tag office reopens in Spruce Pine

The North Carolina License Plate Agency has reopened in Spruce Pine. The office closed in October due to the retirement of longtime operator Sabra Franklin. Mitchell County and the NC Division of Motor Vehicles negotiated a changeover of operations and the agency is now a county department.
