SPRUCE PINE – Mitchell County Animal Rescue assisted Mitchell County Sherriff’s Office with the removal of four horses, three dogs and 30 cats from a home in the Buladean Community this past October after receiving an anonymous tip about the animals’ conditions.

Nearly six months later, two of the horses are ready for their forever homes.

Black Beauty is a 6-year-old Walker mix mare. She stands 15 hands high and is gentle. She is easy to lead and could be broken to ride in the future with veterinarian approval. She is patient during visits with the farrier and vet. Her last vet visit went well, and with continued nutritional support, Black Beauty is expected to make a full recovery. She is up-to-date on vaccinations.

“Black Beauty is a sweet soul and a quick learner,” according to her foster family. “Her body condition score is up from one to almost a five. She is ready to move on.”

Black Beauty’s ideal adopter would be experienced with horses and have lots of attention and love to give.

Moonlight is a 7-year-old Arabian mare who would measure as a large pony. She leads well and has no special needs. Her foster family is teaching her ground manners and how to lunge. She is very smart. She is learning to trust humans again and will do best with a patient adopter.

“Having her has been a blessing,” according to her foster family.

Moonlight is up-to-date on vaccinations and vet-approved for adoption.

MCAR is accepting applications for the adoption of both horses at this time. Both adoption fees have been waived. Visit www.mitchellcountyanimalrescue.org to fill out an application. Call MCAR at 828-765-6952 for more information.
