Trio crowned at Miss Emerald Ridge competition

The 2023 Miss Emerald Ridge competitions were held on Aug. 27 at Mitchell High, as seven teen candidates and three Miss candidates competed for titles.

Reigning titleholders Jalon Blackwell and Hannah Harvey were honored and were on hand to crown their successors.

Miss North Carolina Outstanding Teen Karrigan Brown and Miss North Carolina Karolyn Brown also attended.

Teagan Boyd earned the Outstanding Teen Division Community Service Award. Emma Travis was the Teen Congeniality winner.

Alyssa Hemphill received the Talent Award and Travis won the On Stage Question and Red Carpet Attire awards.

Alyssa Hemphill was crowned Miss Mineral City Outstanding Teen with Teagan Boyd finishing as first runner-up. Dallas Seagle was crowned Miss Emerald Ridge Outstanding Teen.

Prize packages included a $500 wardrobe allowance and a paid entry fee to the 2023 Miss North Carolina’s Outstanding Teen Competition.

Christine Carpenter got the Miss Community Service Award and Congeniality went to Kallie Barker. The talent award was a tie between Rieonna Weldon and Barker.

Weldon notched the Evening Attire award and Barker was crowned Miss Emerald Ridge.  Her prize package includes a $1,000 scholarship and a $500 wardrobe allowance to help her prepare for the 2023 Miss North Carolina Competition next summer.

The Heart of a Servant Community Service Award, which is presented to a member of the local community who demonstrates a heart and passion for community service was awarded to the Appalachian Therapeutic Riding Center.

These ladies will compete at the Miss North Carolina and Miss North Carolina’s Outstanding Teen Competitions in June 2023 vying for additional scholarships.
