Spruce Pine has discharge of untreated wastewater

The Town of Spruce Pine had a discharge of untreated wastewater on April 12 of an estimated 5,000 gallons from a manhole near Smith Road in Spruce Pine. The untreated wastewater was discharged into English Creek in the Toe River Basin. 

The Division of Water Quality was notified of the event on April 12 and is reviewing the matter. For information, contact the Town of Spruce Pine at 765-3000. 

NC General Statute 143-215 1C requires that the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment works issue a press release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters. 

Town Manager Darlene Butler sent the news release on April 12.
