A book review by Bakersville Little Free Library Steward Roby Summerfield
Roby Summerfield
“Stay” tells the story of Piper and her family, who have just moved into a homeless shelter to assist families and get them back on their feet.
Through the chaos of her situation, Piper finds a special connection with Baby, a dog living with his human companion Jewel on the streets. She is determined to do everything she can to help Jewel and her doggy find a permanent home. With the help of her Firefly Troup and some investigating, Piper makes a difference for her newfound friends after she learns about Jewel’s story and how she became homeless.
Reading about Piper making a change in her community was so inspirational. She set a goal to help one person, and a dog, and followed through. It showed me no matter the size of your efforts, you have the ability to make a big impact.
I reached out to local Western North Carolina author Bobbie Pyron because I was so touched by her book and hadn’t read anything quite like it before. It gave me an insider’s point of view as to what Piper’s life looks like. I believe this is a very important and timely issue in today’s world. As quoted, Bobbie wrote, “I feel very passionate about the complexity of issues and the assumptions about people experiencing homelessness. My great good hope is that this story will open people’s eyes and hearts a little more.”
