A group of Mitchell High health occupations students earlier this month competed in the Northwest Regional HOSA competition at Watauga High School.
The 12 students competed in events and attended a health career expo and educational symposia. The students prepared for the competition for several months, honing their skills in areas like academic testing, research and creative problem-solving.
Trinity Gardner placed first in clinical nursing. Rheagan Thomas and Abby Richardson took first in health career display.
Alondra Ramirez, Selena Queriapa and Elizabeth Badillo rounded out Mitchell’s first-place wins by taking the top spot in creative problem-solving.
Alex Huang, Conner Birchfield and Jenises Pile earned second-place finishes in pharmacy, medical ethics and dental terminology, respectively.
Sophia Morgan notched third place in dental terminology. Erik Lin and Nicole Garland registered top-10 finishes in nutrition and nursing assistant, respectively.
With their strong performances, each student will advance to the state competition, set for April in Greensboro.
