Mica Gallery of Bakersville will feature new work from local potter Robbie Bell of Speckled Dog Pottery during October in an exhibition titled “Mise en Place.”

Those who like to cook and enjoy using handmade pieces at their table will find plenty to like in the show

Mise en Place is a French culinary term that means to put into place or gather. The show is about gathering the pots one needs to prepare for those who love to eat— mixing bowls, baking dishes, plates, cups— everything needed in the kitchen or at the table.

Speckled Dog pots are made of porcelaneous stoneware and fired in an electric kiln.

“They are made to be used every day,” Bell said. “They are made for those who love food because that is one of the simplest pleasures of life.”

Mica, a cooperative gallery of fine art and contemporary craft, is located at 37 Mitchell Ave., Bakersville. It’s open daily Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.

The gallery continues to follow guidance from the CDC and the state of North Carolina for controlling the spread of COVID-19.
