SPRUCE PINE, N.C.— Mary Jo Armstrong, 85 of Spruce Pine, and formally of Michigan and Marshall, NC, passed to her Heavenly Home on March 26th while in the care of Mission Hospital.
Mary was always expressing her love for God with anyone she met. She spent her career of 30 years working with an adoption agency in Michigan, where she retired in 1993, and then moved to Spruce Pine with her husband Charles.
Mary Jo was born on February 20, 1936 to her late parents, Ira and Evie Massey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles, and brother Leonard Massey and wife Faye.
Mary Jo is survived by her son, Gordon Armstrong and his wife Laurie; grandson, Brandon Armstrong; her brother, Donald Massey and wife Donna; nephews, Shane and Chris Massey, Greg, Jeff and Kevin Massey; one niece, Karen Baker; and her special little dog, Bobo, whom she dearly loved.
Mary loved her church, First Baptist of Spruce Pine, where she taught Sunday School and always offered a helping hand to anyone in need. She will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her.
Mary Jo’s life will be celebrated at Madison Funeral Home in Marshall, NC on Saturday, April 10th at 2:00 pm, visitation will be from 12:00 until 2:00. Pastor Rocky Branch from First Baptist in Spruce Pine will be leading the service. Social distancing and mask are highly recommended.
