BURNSVILLE, N.C.— Gerald Dean Pittman passed away on Sunday, April 4th, 2021 after a lengthy illness. He was born in the Ledger area of Mitchell County, NC, on September 28th, 1947, the son of the late Weldon and Nell Stewart Pittman. He was a US Army Veteran and a member of Covey Rock Baptist Church. Gerald loved to fish and be out in nature. He always pulled for Carolina Tarheels basketball and Carolina Hurricanes hockey. He loved his family and all his dogs so much!
In addition to his parents, Gerald was also preceded in death by brothers: Richard Norris Pittman and Johnny Wayne Pittman and sisters: Sandy Hazel Steward and Patsy Ann Barrier Phillips.
Surviving is his loving wife of 39 years, Sue Fox Pittman; sons: Tony Pittman (Laura) of Spruce Pine and Zachary Pittman (Lindsey) of Mountain City, TN; grandchildren: Cole, Kyle and Adelyn and special sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Charles Donnahoo of Micaville. Gerald had many special nieces and nephews whom he loved so much. He also loved his special doggie, Boone.
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Marvin Hensley will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
