Mitchell Medics is doing its part to ensure that Mitchell County citizens are prepared to save a life.

The organization recently launched a series of free hands-only CPR training at the EMS base in Bakersville. The training covers four steps— recognizing cardiac arrest, calling 911, doing chest compressions and using an automated external defibrillator.

“Our hands do so many things, the most important of which may be saving someone’s life,” the organization wrote in a social media post. “The power is in your hands.”

The courses are strictly public education and are not certification courses. Mitchell Medics added more courses after the initial two late last month.

For more information about the course, find Mitchell County RACE CARS: Improving Cardiac Arrest Survival on Facebook. The Mitchell Medics EMS Facebook page also has information about the courses.

There is an interest form linked on those Facebook pages. Those interested in learning how they could save their neighbors can fill it out and will be contacted when new course dates are announced.

For more information about the courses, email Stephanie at Mitchell County 911 Communications at stephanie.wiseman@mitchellcountync.gov or call Mitchell Medics at 592-4230.

“Great classes,” Mitchell Medics posted on Facebook along with a photo of county commissioner Harley Masters trying her hand at chest compressions. “Spread the word and let’s save a life together.”
