Body

An important part of Mitchell-Yancey Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to help families who have seen their homes fall into disrepair due to age, illness or financial hardship.

This mission-driven program is known as the Aging-In-Place/Repair Program. The organization received several grants this past year for repairs to expand its repair program.

Grants from the AMY Wellness Foundation and the Mitchell Community Fund, combined with volunteer labor, allowed M-Y Habitat to complete a wider variety of projects than ever before.

We provided deck and porch repairs, ramps and safety rail construction, flooring and even roof repair/replacement.

M-Y Habitat has completed the repair requests that came in as a result of a published article in May. The organization is now ready for more.

The Aging-In-Place/Repair Program is meant to allow elders to stay in their homes by doing repairs that make their homes healthier and safer. It’s not limited to just elders. Families in need are equally important to M-Y Habitat, which believes that everyone deserves a decent place to live.

For the next four months, M-Y Habitat has access to matching funds from the North Carolina Office of Habitat for Humanity. With their contribution, the repair program can continue to take on large and small projects.

With the help of board members and volunteers, there’s a workforce in place. Start the process today by contacting Misty at the M-Y Habitat ReStore at 766-9000 or mitchell.yancey.hfh@gmail.com.
