The event is for anyone in Mitchell, Yancey and Avery county who has been affected by drug addiction or lost a loved one from a drug overdose. The event will feature testimonies, support information and a keynote speaker.

Car show – The 2017 Rolling ‘Neath the Roan Car Show, BBQ and Swap Meet begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, on the grounds of the Buladean Community Foundation Center, formerly the Buladean Elementary School. More than 250 cars, trucks and motorcycles are expected to participate this year. There will be a 50/50 drawing, bake sale and raffle during the event. There will be area arts and crafts vendors as well as specialty items for sale. Live music is 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Drug Take-Back Day – The annual “Drug Take-Back Day” is Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Prescription Pad, 730 E. Main St. in Burnsville. The Mitchell Yancey Substance Abuse Task Force collaborates each year with area law enforcement agencies, pharmacies and pharmacists, and task force volunteers to collect unwanted and unused prescription medication from residents.

Gospel singing – The Hinson Girls will host the 5th Sunday Night Gospel Singing at Bear Creek Baptist Church at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29. The group is made up of four sisters from Lancaster, South Carolina. Everyone is welcome.
