Volleyball, soccer seasons winding down
LEDGER – Mitchell High School’s varsity volleyball team earned its first win of the season Wednesday, Sept. 19, with a 3-2 victory at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy.
The Mountaineers (1-12) won the first set and after dropping sets two and three, earned a 25-21 win in set four and closed the match with a 15-8 victory in the decisive fifth set.
Mitchell has four games remaining in the regular season – three at home and one on the road.
The Mountaineers close the regular season with back-to-back home games against Western Highlands Conference foes Avery County and Owen.
Mitchell High School’s varsity soccer team is searching for its first win of the season.
The Mountaineers (0-9) hosted Polk County Monday, Oct. 1, but results were not available at press time.
Mitchell plays four of its next five games on the road before closing the regular season with home conference contests against Avery and Owen.
