VARSITY VOLLEYBALL: Mitchell splits first 2 of 3-game road stretch

LEDGER – The Mitchell High School varsity volleyball team opened its three-game road trip by splitting the first two games. 

The Mountaineers (5-9, 1-3) blanked Madison 3-0 in the first game of the road swing Tuesday, Sept. 24, and followed with a 3-0 loss Thursday, Sept. 26, at Polk. 

Mitchell was at East Wilkes Monday, Sept. 30. Results were not available at press time. 

The Mountaineers came back home Tuesday, Oct. 1, for a match against Avery. 

Mitchell now turns its attention to back-to-back road contests at Owen Thursday, Oct. 3, and Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Mountain Heritage.

The Mountaineers entered play against East Wilkes tied with Owen (2-11, 1-3) for fourth place in the Western Highlands Conference. 

Polk (11-3, 4-0) leads the conference and has not lost a set in conference play. Mountain Heritage (4-7, 3-0) sits in second place, a half-game behind Polk. 

Avery (2-7, 2-2) is in sole possession of third place while Madison (0-5, 0-3) is in last place.
