UPDATE: STATE WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
GREENSBORO – Two of the five Mitchell High School wrestlers that qualified for the 2018 NCHSAA 1A Individual Wrestling Championships in Greensboro won their quarterfinal matches.
Mitchell’s Dylan Lowery won by fall over South Stanly’s Jaquavius Caraway in the 113-pound quarterfinal match and Mitchell’s Ryan Richardson won by fall over Uwharrie Charter’s Branson Lambert in the 160-pound weight class.
Mitchell’s other state qualifiers – Coltin Marlowe, Joseph Maltba and Hudson Boone – lost in the quarterfinals.
Uwharrie Charter’s Adam Robins won by decision over Marlowe in the 126-pound weight class and Isaiah Bryant of Voyager Academy won by decision over Maltba in the 132-pound weight class.
In the 285-pound championship quarterfinals, Princeton’s Zach Hill won by fall over Boone.
Lowery and Richardson both lost by decision in the semifinals. Lowery lost to Robbinsville’s Matt Lovin and Richardson to Avery County’s Lucas Andrews.
Wrestling continues at 9 a.m. Saturday with the class 1A first consolation matches followed by 2A, 3A and 4A third consolation matches, the consolation semifinals for all classes and the third and fifth-place consolation matches.
