Travise Pitman appointed Mitchell athletic director
LEDGER – Mitchell County Schools, Mitchell High School and the Mitchell High School Athletic Department announced Thursday, Aug. 9, that Travise Pitman has been selected as the new Director of Athletics.
Pitman begins immediately as athletic director. He has served as an assistant athletic director for seven years. He has been employed by Mitchell County Schools for the previous 18 years where he has served as head coach for the junior varsity football team, head coach for the junior varsity basketball team, assistant football coach and is entering his fifth season as head varsity football coach where he has amassed a record of 49-11.
“I look forward to the challenges of representing Mitchell Athletics,” Pitman said. “I firmly believe we’ve got great kids taking part in all of our sports programs. Certainly, there will be challenges and we will work together to get the best solutions. Along the way, we will continue to look to our community for their great support as in the past.”
Pitman replaces Jamie Bell, who resigned the position this past June and ultimately left Mitchell County after taking a job at Wando High School in Charleston, South Carolina.
“Jamie did a great job as athletic director,” Pitman said. “He helped our programs and that’s what I plan to do. I will keep things running smoothly, encourage participation in and attendance at our sporting events and I hope to get a few coaching spots filled as well.”
Pitman will have some help in the form of one or two assistants to complete the tasks required of the school’s athletic director.
“I don’t think anyone could do the athletic director job, coach football and teach without some help,” Pitman said. “When you take into consideration all the standards set by the NCHSAA that have to be met like players’ eligibility and those type of things, it’s a lot to take on, but I’m excited to do it.”
