Softball: Mitchell loses to Mountain Heritage; gets shutout by undefeated Madison
Mitchell got down early against Mountain Heritage and couldn’t catch up in an 18-6 loss April 27 in Ledger and lost 16-0 Friday to undefeated Madison at Marshall.
The Lady Cougars scored one run in the first inning, four in the second and five in the third to take a commanding lead. Mitchell scored six runs across the second, third and fourth innings. After scoring once in the fourth, Heritage put the game away with seven runs in the sixth inning.
Mitchell’s Shelby Twiddy and three hits, an RBI and a run scored. Callie Blevins and Carly Suiter both had one RBI. Six different Mitchell players scored.
Kaitlyn Sparks pitched six innings with six strikeouts, three walks and allowed 13 earned runs.
Mitchell (4-10, 2-7) split a home double header with Cloudland High School April 26, winning one game 3-0 and losing the other 3-2.
The Lady Mountaineers finish the season with four games this week. Monday, the team hosted East Henderson and played at Avery Tuesday. Results weren’t available at press time. Wednesday and Thursday are home games against Owen and Avery, respectively.
