SOFTBALL: Lanning hired as new head coach
LEDGER – Kyle Lanning was officially hired Friday, Feb. 1, as the new softball coach at Mitchell High School.
Lanning replaces Dawn Lowe, who had been the head softball coach for several years. Lanning is a native of Asheville and graduated from T.C. Roberson High School. He is also a graduate of Gardner-Webb University.
He and his wife make their home in Spruce Pine, and he has two daughters, Hollis and Josie.
Before being named the head softball coach at Mitchell, he spent four years as an assistant coach at Crest High School in Boiling Springs, and during that time Crest had an overall record of 68-23 with a conference record of 48-14. This past year he led the Crest junior varsity softball team to an overall record of 8-1 and a conference record of 7-0.
