Soccer team tames Cougars

LEDGER – The Mitchell High School girls’ soccer team snapped a four-game losing streak Wednesday, April 17, with an 8-1 rout of rival Mountain Heritage. 

After being shutout in each game of its four-game losing skid, the Mountaineers (2-12, 2-6) exploded for six first-half goals against the Cougars and padded the lead with a pair of tallies in the second half.

Junior Brookln Rogers and freshman Savanah McMahan led the way with two goals each. Freshmen Zayda Carver and Chloe Carter, sophomore Marley Cloer and senior Hannah Hollifield each scored a goal. 

Freshman goalkeeper Peighton Robison and sophomore goalkeeper Paige Johnson each played one half. Robison made five saves and Johnson registered three saves. 

Mitchell hosts Avery Monday, April 29, and close the regular season Wednesday, May 1, against Owen.
