Mountaineers win 2 straight

Baseball team currently third in Western Highlands Conference

LEDGER – The Mitchell High School baseball team has gone 2-2 since returning to action after spring break and currently sit in third place in the competitive Western Highlands Conference.

The Mountaineers (7-5) lost 9-8 Wednesday, April 11, at Patton and lost 10-7 Friday, April 13, to Western Highlands Conference-leading Polk before sweeping Avery 19-4 and 15-0 in a doubleheader this past Saturday at Avery. 

Mitchell is currently in third place in the conference. 

Trystan Jenkins led Mitchell offensively in the wins at Avery, going 5-for-7 with eight RBIs in the doubleheader. Jenkins leads the Western Highlands Conference with a .528 batting average. 

Mitchell had a total of 36 hits in the two games.

The Mountaineers have a pair of games this coming week starting with a home game Wednesday, April 18, against Polk before traveling Friday, April 20, to Avery.
